DOUBLE G & HAL MASONBERG ON CHET HANLEY’S “JAZZ IN THE MODERN ERA”

JAZZ NIGHTS’ sax player and composer extraordinaire, Geoff “Double G” Gallegos and JAZZ NIGHTS’ director Hal Masonberg were this week’s guests on Chet Hanley’s 3-hour TV show JAZZ IN THE MODERN ERA from April 5, 2016.

There’s a lot of music and extraordinary archival video to listen and watch on this episode. And weaving in and out of those, Chet Hanley interviews Double G and Hal Masonberg about both JAZZ NIGHTS and Gee about the saxophone and his lifelong influences.

The show is broken up into 3 sections. The first is about the new documentary JAZZ NIGHTS: A CONFIDENTIAL JOURNEY (having its World Premiere April 23 at the Newport Beach Film Festival). The second section focuses on Double G and the saxophone, focusing both on the greats and the newcomers. The third section returns to discussions of JAZZ NIGHTS: A CONFIDENTIAL JOURNEY.

  • The first section discussing JAZZ NIGHTS runs from 00:14:27 – 00:41:21.
  • The second section on Double G and Sax players runs from 00:41:21 – 01:58:13
  • The third section returns to a discussion of JAZZ NIGHTS and runs from 01:58:13 – 02:57:17

It was a fantastic night of conversation and music about some of our favorite subjects! Thank you, Chat Hanley for the honor and opportunity!
